Case Study Introduction

"Expedia is an online travel company, whose website www.expedia.co.uk is the online booking website provided for its British customers by the US-based, international corporation Expedia. Customers access Expedia’s website to research and book travel, accommodation and other tourism products and services.

Founded in 1995 as part of the Microsoft Corporation, Expedia launched its US website in 1996. Expedia’s UK website went online in 1998 as the company began its international expansion into Europe as well as Canada.  As internet use expanded after the millennium, the company developed rapidly in the UK from a small customer base of ‘in-the-know’ independent travellers and early internet users to a much more mainstream business with a wide appeal to the general travelling public".
