Case Study Introduction

"Kyle Travel is a small travel agency with two shops in the Tees Valley in North East England. One of the shops is in the commuter town of Yarm, Cleveland (see Figure 2.1) and the other is in Barnard Castle, a market town in County Durham.

The business is a ‘miniple’. Travel agency miniples are small to medium-sized companies with few rather than many branches, often clustered in a particular geographical region. Despite the contraction and horizontal integration of the travel agency sector in recent years, miniples like Kyle Travel continue to trade profitably, often in city suburbs and rural towns, providing a personalised service to many loyal customers".
