Case Study Introduction

"Legoland Windsor is a theme park situated to the west of London. It was built to be a tourist attraction, in contrast to Durham Cathedral for example (see Case Study 12), which, like many heritage attractions, was built for another purpose and became a tourist attraction at a later date.

The theme for Legoland Windsor theme park is the Lego construction toy. The toy is Danish in origin and the first Legoland theme park was in Denmark. The name Legoland Windsor distinguishes the UK theme park from the Danish original and from the two other Legolands in Germany and the USA. Windsor, largely due to its castle being an important royal residence, is a historic tourism destination in itself".
