Case Study Introduction

"Ocean Village operates two cruise ships – Ocean Village and Ocean Village Two. It markets fly-cruise holidays in the Caribbean during the northern hemisphere winter and offers Mediterranean cruises in the summer.

Ocean Village’s idea is to offer a different style of cruising holiday that appeals to customers who have not been on this type of holiday before and who would not otherwise think of doing so. Ocean Village cruises are ‘new cruises’. They are targeted at a younger clientele; traditionally cruises have appealed to mature and senior adult age groups. More than half of Ocean Village’s passengers are first-time cruisers. The average age of Ocean Village passengers, just 43 in the summer season, is over ten years younger than the cruising market’s norm".
