Unit Overview

"Holiday representatives play a vital role in the successful operation of a tour operator’s programme of holidays. A holiday representative (rep) is the holidaymakers’ first, and probably only, direct point of contact with the tour company. Working as a holiday rep is a very appealing job to many people thinking of a career in travel and tourism. It offers the chance to work abroad and help all types of customers enjoy their holidays to the full, but it is a very demanding and responsible job. Reps have to work long hours, deal with a host of enquiries from customers and sort out problems in a professional and efficient manner. Time off in the resort is very limited during the season and the job involves a certain amount of administration and basic accounting.

In this unit you will learn about the roles, duties and responsibilities of different types of holiday representatives who work overseas. The unit also gives you the opportunity to examine the legal responsibilities of reps and the part they play in providing a healthy and safe holiday environment for customers. You will also have the chance to practise your social, customer service and selling skills when dealing with a range of situations that reps encounter, such as organising a welcome meeting for guests".

Also available in printed format in this book.
