Unit Overview
"Visitor attractions play a vital role in the travel and tourism sector, offering excitement, fun, education and activities for all types of people from the UK and overseas. It is often an attraction that tempts people to visit a tourist destination in the first place. Attractions can be purpose-built, such as a theme park or family entertainment complex, or naturally-occurring, for example National Parks, forests and lakes. Together, they offer a wealth of unique experiences for domestic and overseas visitors to Britain.
In this unit you will learn about different types of visitor attractions, and the products and services they offer. You will discover how attractions use different kinds of interpretation techniques to inform, educate and entertain visitors, including displays, leaflets and costumed guides. You will also investigate the appeal of attractions to different types of visitors and the key features that affect their decision to visit, such as location, opening times, transport links and admission charges. Finally, the unit explores the importance of visitor attractions to the popularity and appeal of UK tourist destinations. Supervised visits to local and national attractions, and talks by people working in the attractions industry, will help you to understand how attractions operate, plus the techniques they use to attract and retain visitors".
