Unit Overview

"The UK has a great deal to offer as a tourist destination to British people and overseas visitors, as well as supporting many travel and tourism jobs. Having a sound knowledge of popular UK destinations and what they can offer different types of visitors is very important for anybody working in travel and tourism, so that they can provide the correct information and advice to travellers. Domestic tourism (British people taking holidays in their own country) and inbound tourism (visitors coming to this country from abroad) support a wide range of products and services that go to make up the UK travel and tourism sector.

In this unit you will learn how to locate key destinations, gateways and geographical features in the UK. You will also investigate the differing needs of inbound and domestic visitors to tourist destinations, exploring the features and facilities that attract visitors. The unit gives you an understanding of how inbound and domestic tourism are affected by internal and external factors, such as security and changes in exchange rates. Throughout the unit you will use a range of reference sources to provide information on the UK as a destination".
