Case Study Introduction

"Virgin Trains (VT) operates express trains on the West Coast main railway line from London Euston to Birmingham, Manchester, North Wales, Liverpool and Scotland. The company ran trains on a series of cross-country routes in various directions from Birmingham New Street station until it lost the Cross Country franchise in 2007. In the UK, trains are operated by private sector train operating companies (TOCs), like Virgin Trains, along routes that they franchise from the government. The West Coast Main Line is Virgin’s remaining franchise".
